Edward S. Kraus, of blessed memory (1952-2010)
Eitz Chayim Award
“Eitz Chayim hi L’Machazikim bo...” The Torah is a Tree of Life to all those who hold on to it. Throughout his too-short life, Ed Kraus grasped on to the truths of the Torah, and lived his life in the principles and spirit that is found in its depths.
Ed was born and raised in California. After working for many years with the Southland Corporation in their 7-Eleven division, he went into business with his brothers and started Medex Surgical, an orthopedic implant and medical device distributorship. He was married to his beloved wife Joanne for 36 years, and together they raised their two sons Jeremy and Daniel.
Ed was always a staunch supporter and believer in Chabad of Plano/Collin County’s mission, and was one of our dearest friends. We will honor his memory with the EITZ CHAYIM AWARD as well as dedicating THE EDWARD S. KRAUS CENTER FOR LEARNING AND REFLECTION in his honor.
The center will reflect his love of teaching and of Judaism by allowing people of all ages to browse and borrow our considerable Judaic book collection, gather for a class, enjoy a selection of educational videos, browse our digital resources and enjoy a cup of coffee, all in a beautiful, well-appointed room in the Lang Chabad Center.
The Torah and its Books are a Tree of Life for us to hold on to, and it has sustained us as a nation over generations. Through The Center for Learning and Reflection, Ed’s family, friends and community will be able to honor his memory. The roots that he planted in this world will continue to flourish and grow through the many Jews who will benefit from the learning and friendships that will grow in this Center.
The EITZ CHAYIM AWARD will be received by his wife Joanne and son Jeremy on behalf of his entire family: his mother andstepfather Geraldine and Milton Toorans; his brothers and their wives, Robert and Cindy Kraus and Harry and Judy Kraus; his wife Joanne and their sons and their wives, Jeremy and Larisa Kraus and Daniel and Emily Kraus.

Albert Grossman
Chessed Award
Those that come to services on Sunday morning at Chabad know that there will be a lox and bagel breakfast with all the fixings waiting for them following davening, courtesy of Albert Grossman. It was at Albert’s urging that the daily Minyan became a consistent and vital part of Chabad’s services. The congregation also enjoys when he leads the services on many occasions.
Albert’s involvement in Chabad is not a surprise given his deep Jewish roots. Hailing from a Rabbinic family and given a strong Jewish education, Albert was imbued with unwavering faith in the importance of fostering and strengthening Yiddishkeit wherever one may be.
We are proud and grateful to be able to honor Albert with the Chessed award in recognition of his valuable contributions at Chabad of Plano. Albert and his wife Renata are the proud parents of Dr. Erik Grossman and Karen Hazan-Cohen who is married to Marcus, and the grandparents of Jaime, Michael and Alex.
