CELEBRATING 25 YEARS
Time to Reflect | Celebrate | Thank | Inspire | Grow
1992 | Plano was a small city with a population of approximately 100,000. Coit was a two-lane road that went as far north as Hedgcoxe Road. Not one synagogue had a building of its own. Under these improbable conditions, Chabad of Plano put down its first young roots. Rabbi and Rivkie Block like the thousands of emissaries of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, arrived in Plano with one directive: to reveal the “Pintele Yid”, the spark of the Jewish soul which yearns for spiritual and G‑dly connection.
For eight years the Chabad hosted services and classes in the converted garage of the Blocks’ home on Miami Drive. In 1999 ground was broken on the corner of Park and Coit and for Yom Kippur 2000 the beautiful Lang Chabad Center was opened for its first service. As the demographics grew over the years, Chabad of Plano responded to these changes with an evolving array of organizations and programs offered to those who were seeking Jewish experiences and community.
During this celebration we will honor five families to represent the five areas of Chabad’s exceptional growth over these past 25 years.
Chabad of Plano has since its inception expanded and matured along with our fair city. As the number of its citizens grew, so did the number of participants in Chabad events. In addition to the five institutions mentioned above, Chabad serves the community with Plano’s only Mikvah, has a beautiful library with thousands of books, and hosts creative and exciting Holiday programs for the entire family five times a year. It is no exaggeration to say tens of thousands of Jewish people have benefitted from Chabad’s Spiritual Services, Educational Initiatives, and Recreational Activities over the past 25 years.
2017 | All this was done with the mantra of “one Mitzvah and one person at a time.” The one individual, the one Mitzvah and the one moment in time that is infused with all that is good and G‑dly. And soon, the one became another and another and then the one became many in the form of a vibrant, growing and warm Jewish community that we are today. This is what we are celebrating on this 25th Anniversary of Chabad of Plano!
